About Me

My photo

Life is beautiful whether you're soaking in sunshine or caught in a thunderstorm. I take the beauty of life for granted too often. I have a supportive husband who I don't want to live life without, a beautiful son who is always reminding me of the simple things that really matter, and an independent daughter who is teaching me to throw schedules out the window and live in the moment. My day is made when free samples fill my mailbox. I love discovering a new product and sharing it with others. I'm addicted to coupons and every penny counts. I hope you will enjoy reading my posts and will share your success stories with me as well.

Our Weekend Recap

I love 3 day weekends!  We got so much accomplished and had time for play too!  Although I messed up our days by scheduling a work day before our play day and the weather didn't cooperate on our play day.  Oh well...we played the responsible role this time around.

Friday night was perfect bonfire weather so after supper we roasted marshmallows over our new fire pit.  I stopped counting how many marshmallows Bradley ate!

Friday night relaxing!
Talking to her Daddy!
This guy loves his marshmallows!
On Saturday, we went to the Farmer's Market, hit some yard sales, and then to our local nursery to pick out bushes and flowers for our front flower beds.  It's taken us almost two years to get our flower beds cleaned out and look presentable.  It just hasn't been on our priority list but seeing how nice they look now makes me wish we had finished them sooner.

These two are best of friends.
Finding the perfect bushes was harder than I thought.
Bradley loved helping Mike make the flower bed look gorgeous.
Before and after pictures...what a difference some TLC can make.
Sunday was a cold gray day so we started off with repairing the floor in Savannah's room.  I love that Mike is so handy around the house and can fix just about anything!  After lunch we headed to the beach.  It was windy and cold but that pretty much guarantees a beach to yourself which is really nice sometimes.

Yay for fixed floors!
This is typical Maine weather...overcast, chilly, and beautiful!
Mike teasing Bradley about throwing him in the water.
These three are my world!
I love spending time at the ocean with Bradley!
On Monday, we went to the Memorial Day parade in our little town.  I love this sweet parade!  Then we went over to some friends house for some amazing BBQ, great fellowship, and yummy smores!  Another perfect little weekend in the books.

Walking to town to watch the parade.
Ready for the parade as Savannah is chewing on anything she can get in her mouth.
Me and my girl watching the parade!

Our Weekend Recap

We celebrated all weekend long!  First of all, Mike GRADUATED with his bachelor of science degree in business management.  We are so proud of all his hard work paying off!  His parents and grandparents came up from CT and we had a big celebration dinner on Friday night.  Grandpa and Grandma brought dozens of Italian cookies and pizzelles.  No one makes a cookie like G&G Genovese!

We took a picnic lunch to the ocean on Saturday and enjoyed the beautiful weather!  The spotlight was on Savannah on Saturday as we had baby dedication at church that evening.

A yummy Farmer's Market breakfast started our Sunday morning off and then after the relatives left, we finished up some yard work and had a relaxing evening.

The More of Less by Joshua Becker Book Review

It's so ironic that I read this book today.  The last 48 hours I have been completely overwhelmed by the "stuff" we have in our house.  And when I say "stuff" I really mean Bradley's toys.  The kid doesn't have that many toys (I've been to his friends house and they have 3 times as many toys as he has) but he still has a ridiculous amount of toys.  When every single room minus the bathroom can become cluttered with toys in a matter of an hour, we have a problem.  And I can't blame him.  He's not the one buying the toys.  I'm enabling this chaotic mess by my purchasing stuff for him.

The More of Less is a book written by Joshua Becker and he helps us find the life we want under everything we own.  Most of us own too much stuff.  We feel the burden of our clutter.  We are tired of cleaning, managing, and organizing.  All this STUFF distracts us from the very life we wish we were living.

This is a picture of our family room just this morning. This chaos created by ONE 4 year old boy.  Now picture a mess like this in every single room in this house.  Can you see why I might be a little overwhelmed?

I put Savannah down for a nap this afternoon and told Bradley we would go outside and I would read this book while he played.  This kid played in the dirt for almost 2 hours and didn't need a single toy.  Simplicity is a beautiful thing.  I brought several toys out of him to play with but he ended up just wanting to play with sticks.  He was even finding sticks in different shapes and telling me what letter they looked like.

Some of my favorite parts in this book were where Joshua writes "People who give away possessions hold their remaining possessions in higher esteem.  People who give their time make better use of their remaining time.  And people who donate money are less wasteful with the money left over.  Generous people have less desire for more.  They find fulfillment, meaning, and value outside of the acquisition of possessions."

"We need to recognize what's inside us that's driving our purchasing decisions, because only then can we rob materialism of its power to distract us from what could bring us real happiness and meaning.  Instead of seeking security in buying lots of stuff, seek it in loving relationships with other people.  Instead of trying to earn acceptance from others by owning the same stuff they have, rewrite your definition of what success looks like to you.  Instead of chasing contentment by always adding to your stuff, let contentment come to you by appreciating what you have and giving away what you don't need."

This is a must read book for anyone that is tired of reorganizing their stuff, overwhelmed with their finances due to buying things they don't need, or just wanting to minimize their stuff overall.  Joshua is an excellent writer and this book is a very easy to read which will only take a couple of hours.  To find out more about this book and the author, click here.

Our Weekend Recap

We had one of the best weekends ever!  There were so many events going on around town on Saturday and we were successful at doing them ALL!  We started off going to the Farmer's Market and bought some local meat, eggs, honey, bagels, and pickles.  Then we headed to Smiling Hill farm where we registered Bradley for a week of summer camp.  He chose to go to camp over a birthday party this year!  It's a win win for both of us since he's excited to learn about animals and I don't have to plan a party!  After registering him for camp, we headed to Portland for the Touch a Truck event.  Bradley had a blast seeing and getting in all sorts of cool trucks.  Our favorite was the bookmobile!  Next stop was in Windham to see the new baby goats.  The sweet babies were totally worth the 30 minute wait line.  Then we decided to head over to the airport in Lewiston where they were giving free airplane rides.  Yep, FREE airplane rides.  It was SO cool!  Bradley got to ride in an airplane for the very first time!  It was a nice 10 minute ride which is perfect for getting him ready for our big airplane trip to SC in August.  We stopped for a late lunch at a really yummy pizza joint and got free whoopie pies.  Any place that gives you free whoopie pies is a winner in my book!  We headed home and had enough time to rest before heading to church that night.

On Sunday, we had the best breakfast with food all bought from the Farmer's Market the day before.  It was unbelievably delicious!  We celebrated Savannah turning 5 months old!  Another awesome meal with Juicy Lucy's for a late lunch and then we went for a bike ride that afternoon.  We stopped at the park and then got some frozen yogurt.  We ended the night with Mike finishing his very LAST test for school.  I say he's a college graduate but he says he won't say it until his hands are touching his diploma!  I'm so proud of him working so hard to finish up his college degree and not giving up!
