About Me

My photo

Life is beautiful whether you're soaking in sunshine or caught in a thunderstorm. I take the beauty of life for granted too often. I have a supportive husband who I don't want to live life without, a beautiful son who is always reminding me of the simple things that really matter, and an independent daughter who is teaching me to throw schedules out the window and live in the moment. My day is made when free samples fill my mailbox. I love discovering a new product and sharing it with others. I'm addicted to coupons and every penny counts. I hope you will enjoy reading my posts and will share your success stories with me as well.

Chase the Lion by Mark Batterson Book Review

Chase the Lion is a radically different approach to life.  It's only when we stop fearing failure that we can fully seize opportunity by the mane.  Mark Batterson encourages us to have dreams that scare us.  Dreams that are so big that without God they would be impossible to achieve.  This book is centered around II Samuel 23:20 which says "There was also Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a vailiant warrior from Kabzeel.  He did many heroic deeds, which included killing two champions of Moab.  Another time, on a snowy day, he chased a lion down into a pit and killed it."

Some of my favorite parts in this book are the following:

"I'm not convinced that our true date of death is the date listed on our death certificate.  Sadly, most people die long before their heart stops beating.  We start dying the day we stop dreaming.  And ironically, we start living when we discover a dream worth dying for."

"What got you here might not get you where you need to go next.  At critical junctures you have to jump the curve.  You have to reinvent yourself, reimagine your life.   That's what dreamers do."

"An altar reminds us that God who did it before can do it again.  It's not just a token of God's faithfulness.  It's a statement of faith:  the God who got us here will get us there, and the God who did this will do that."

"Change of pace + change of place = change of perspective"

"Sometimes God will put a dream in  your heart that is actually for someone else to accomplish.  And sometimes there is more joy in watching someone else do it.  David dreamed of building a temple, but God said no.  God downloaded the plans to David, but it was David's son who would fulfill the dream."

"Faith is taking the first step before God reveals the second step."

Chase the Lion has been a great book for me to read as it reminded me God's faithfulness to us during our big step out in faith when we moved to Maine.  It's also encouraged me to start dreaming again and dream BIG to see how God will make those dreams come true.  This book is full of facts and stories of people who had dreams become a reality.  At times it can be a lot and there were times I got so tired of reading about all these stories.  I had to pace myself with just a chapter a day so I wouldn't lose focus or skim thru just to be finished with this book.  Stick with it, there are some great points in the book!
