About Me

My photo

Life is beautiful whether you're soaking in sunshine or caught in a thunderstorm. I take the beauty of life for granted too often. I have a supportive husband who I don't want to live life without, a beautiful son who is always reminding me of the simple things that really matter, and an independent daughter who is teaching me to throw schedules out the window and live in the moment. My day is made when free samples fill my mailbox. I love discovering a new product and sharing it with others. I hope you will enjoy reading my posts and will share your stories with me as well.

Bailey Island Scenic Cruise

We recently took a Bailey Island Scenic Day Cruise bought through a Groupon deal.  We had never been to Bailey Island before so we weren't sure what to expect.   The boat leaves at 10 am and arrives at Bailey Island around noon.  They dock right at Cook's Restaurant where they encourage you to grab some lunch.  Mike and I had packed sandwiches because we wanted to explore the island.  They give you two hours on Bailey Island which is more than enough time.  The boat heads back to Portland at 2 pm and arrives back around 4 pm.

A couple things we would do differently if we went on the day cruise again.  Do not sit on the front of the boat.  You aren't sitting high enough to see over the railings and unless you are standing the entire boat ride, you won't see much of anything.  We sat on the right side of the boat on the way back and it was a much better experience.  Bring a jacket because it does get pretty chilly if you aren't sitting in the sun.  Instead of bringing sandwiches next time, we would eat at Salt Cod Cafe where you can choose anything from lobster rolls to deli sandwiches on fresh, homemade bread.  Salt Cod Cafe is about a 15 minute walk from where they dock the boat but it's a great location with outdoor seating.

As far as exploring the island, there honestly wasn't much we could explore by foot in two hours.  We were very disappointed in this part.  The roads are very narrow so you have to be very careful walking.  The beach is rather small with lots of little bugs crawling all over the crushed rocks and sea shells.   We lasted about 5 minutes on the beach before we got grossed out and found another spot to have our picnic.

The bridge was probably the coolest part about the island.  It's the only one of its type in the world.

Overall, the boat ride on the way back made up for the whole day.  It was very relaxing and we saw some beautiful islands and it was cool to see the Portland Head Light from ocean view.
