About Me

My photo

Life is beautiful whether you're soaking in sunshine or caught in a thunderstorm. I take the beauty of life for granted too often. I have a supportive husband who I don't want to live life without, a beautiful son who is always reminding me of the simple things that really matter, and an independent daughter who is teaching me to throw schedules out the window and live in the moment. My day is made when free samples fill my mailbox. I love discovering a new product and sharing it with others. I hope you will enjoy reading my posts and will share your stories with me as well.

Check out this new Miracle Oil body wash from Dial.  It's infused with Marula oil to make your skin beautifully soft.  Your skin will feel clean, luxurious, and smooth thanks to Dial's latest and greatest body wash.

I love the generous amount of suds this body wash makes.  The more suds you have the cleaner you feel, right?  This body wash does have a higher perfume smell, so if you have a sensitive nose, it's probably not for you.

Miss Brenda and the Loveladies Book Review

Wow!  What an inspiring book!  I seriously could not put this book down.  Miss Brenda and the Loveladies is a true story of Brenda Spahn's journey from rags to riches to redemption.  Brenda Spahn saw hope for ex-con women.  She gave up her dreams to change their lives.

Brenda did a fantastic job writing about her journey.  I became a part of her life through this book.  The LoveLadies became like sisters to me.  I laughed and cried with Brenda.  I rooted for Brenda and I hurt when her dreams were being threatened.  This book touched my heart.

One of my favorite chapters was chapter 12 where she breaks down The Lord's Prayer beautifully and simple for the Loveladies to understand.

Our Father in Heaven
"You are recognizing God as your Father"
Hallowed be Your name
"God, You're so awesome, You're so great."
Your Kingdom come
"This is the most important part.  You're praying for the Lord to use you as His kingdom on earth.  Make him Lord of your life, just like He is in Heaven."
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven
"This is what we want to happen.  We can make requests to God, but we have to trust in His will.  We have to trust that God knows what is best for us, even if it might not seem that way at times."
Give us this day our daily bread
"Many people think this is just about food, but it isn't.  You're asking for your needs to be met, whatever they are."
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors
"This is where it really gets important and really hard.  At times this seems impossible.  You're asking God to forgive your sins to the same degree as you forgive those who sin against you.  So if you don't forgive someone the whole way, you're asking God to forgive you only part of the way too.  You're asking to be forgiven to the same measure as you forgive others."
And do no lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one
"Help us to not sin."
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever
"You are the greatest.  I love you."

Reading about Brenda's dedication to these women is inspiring.  It encourages me to get outside my comfortable life and help others.  It reminds me not to judge, we have no idea what people are going through.  It confirms that you can fight for your dreams.

Six Years in Heaven - In Memory of Barbara Lay

You've been in heaven 6 years today.  You are missed is an understatement.  No one had a smile like you.  No one had eyes that sparkled more.  No one cared more about people than you did.  Your legacy lives on and today we remember how you showed God's love to everyone you met.  For those who knew my beautiful Mother, please show compassion to someone today.  Share the love of Jesus with someone in need.  Speak sweet words to someone hurting.  And take extra time to appreciate the life God has given you on earth.

Today I put together bags of food for the homeless.  It's nothing extravagant.  Just some simple items into a Ziploc bag.  I wanted to do something in memory of Mom.  I normally see 1-2 homeless people every time I go grocery shopping.  Passing out these bags will remind me each time that God cares for them as much as He cares for me.  And even though Mom isn't here physically helping me pass out these bags, she's with me in spirit and I know this would make her smile.

Mommy's Bliss Sweet Slumber Baby Wash, Massage Cream, and Mist Review

I have a 3 1/2 year old son.  That's just about as exhausting as a newborn, right?  I'm not sure who made up the terrible two's rule since Bradley was an angel when he was 2 years old.  But the terrible three's is no joke.  Just today, this happened.

Because it's normal to use your sloppy joes as mud pits on your train table.

I received this sweet trio of products from Mommy's Bliss and it's been aaaaaamazing!  I actually use it for both bedtime and for those days like today when Bradley just needs a chill out moment and a solid nap so we can enjoy the rest of our day together.

Not only are Mommy's Bliss products gentle, moisturizing, and hypoallergenic, they don't contain any parabens or sulfates.  These products are gentle enough for daily use, or double duty use in my world lately.  The baby wash provides the perfect amount of bubbles and lavender scent.  I love the massage cream that absorbs quickly, isn't greasy, and relaxes Bradley.  The sweet slumber mist is perfect for using on his blankets and pillows.  I even spray a light mist on the stuffed animals he sleeps with.

The end result of using these fabulous Sweet Slumber products is:

Oh, such heavenly sweet slumber!

*Disclosure - I received three free products from Mommy's Bliss in exchange for a review.  All opinions expressed here are my own.

Our Weekend Recap

Y'all.  We had a great weekend.  I really just want to rewind the last two days and do it all over again.

We started off our weekend by getting memberships at BJ's.  I've missed Costco so much and with it being almost 2 hours away, I knew I needed to find something else.  BJ's isn't Costco but you can't beat the great Living Social deal going on right now.  Buy a membership for $35 and you get a $25 BJ's gift card which is basically making your membership just $10.  They have fewer organic products than Costco but they have my basics and they are cheaper than the grocery store.  I'm hoping for substantial savings on next week's grocery budget! We strolled around BJ's for over an hour.  You know you're an old married fart when that is your Friday night adventure!

On Saturday, Mike went to a Men's Breakfast at church while Bradley and I slept in and then made pancakes.  That kid and his chocolate chip pancakes.  When Mike came home, we all worked outside for awhile shoveling, roof raking, and cleaning up before the next snow storm was hitting later that day.  Mike and Bradley made Chinese Egg Rolls and Cream Cheese Wontons for supper and Bradley even loaded the dishwasher after supper!

We had a great service at Southcoast CC on Sunday.  Pastor Travis has been going through the book of Jonah and it's been a convicting series.  We stayed for lunch after service and it was really nice to make new connections and build friendships.  Get this.  It was 37 degrees when we left church with the sun shining!  I actually felt like I was on a tropical island for a few minutes.  Mud season is right around the corner so we made a trip to the LL Bean store in Freeport and picked up our first pairs of Bean Boots.  I feel like an official Mainer now!  Bradley loves the LL Bean store just for the fish.  And we couldn't end the day without stopping at Wicked Whoopies!

The Latest and Greatest in Bradley's World

Oh Bradley.  You are a busy beaver lately with energy that doesn't end.  If you're not racing yourself in the house, you are finding things to jump over.  If you are not building with your legos, you are busy working a puzzle.  If you are not watching videos on your tablet, you are playing outside in the snow.  You are so full of ideas, imagination, creativity, and just a bundle of joy.  I'm so thankful you are my son!

You love puzzles!  You are now completing 24 piece puzzles all by yourself and you always love putting the last piece in Daddy and Mommy's puzzles.

If you could be an Eskimo, I'm pretty sure you would leave me tomorrow to be one. You find more fun in shoveling the snow than you do sledding.  If I try to get you to go sledding, you will go 2-3 times and then say, "let's get back to work shoveling".  We built our first snow tunnel together and I'll never forget how excited you were to crawl under the snow.

You love watching YouTube videos on your tablet.  Your favorite YouTube videos are watching strangers make creations out of Play-doh or Peppa the Pig.  The various positions you watch these videos in are hilarious.  It can't just be as simple as sitting on your bottom on the couch.  And I love when I catch you smiling or laughing at something funny that you just watched.

You are so proud of the creations you build with your legos. You are a genius with your imagination and are always looking for things around the house to build with. You made your first booby trap for Mommy and I was shocked that you even knew what that was or knew how to make one.  I'm pretty sure I'm in for some surprises the older and smarter you become.

Our Trip to DeLorme, The Map Store

We recently visited DeLorme Map Store in Yarmouth, ME.  Let's just say the song from Dora the Explorer, I'm the Map was constantly being sung in my head while I was there.

Mike and I use Siri a lot when on the road.  A couple weeks ago, I even asked "Who uses maps anymore?"  We are such a technology driven society that buying a paper map and reading it just doesn't make any sense when you have Siri around.

Two days later I saw where we lived close to Delorme and told Mike let's go check it out just for fun.  I was actually excited to see what Eartha looked like.

Eartha, the world's largest revolving and rotating globe was pretty incredible to experience in person.  You can read more about it here.

The Map Store was really cool and of course the gift shop was Bradley's favorite part of taking a trip there.  They had a huge variety of fun, educational toys and books for children.  Pretty much any kind of map or globe you need, they have it.

Bradley loves his new little globe!  He already knows where to find Maine.

Our Weekend Recap

My days were a little messed up with our three day weekend.  We had a blizzard in the forecast for Sunday so church services were rescheduled for Saturday afternoon.  Mike had today off for President's Day so it felt like Saturday all over again.  My favorite thing I did this weekend was go to an Estate Sale on Saturday morning.  I'm a huge garage sale fan and to actually go to an estate sale in the middle of winter in Maine made me so happy!  We didn't have the snow accumulation that the weather guys thought we would get but we still had bitter cold and wicked winds.  We stayed inside in our pj's all day on Sunday and had a super lazy day.  Today, I found my new favorite grocery store....TRADER JOE'S.  I'm in love with that place.  We picked up some sandwiches at Mamie's Farmhouse and went down to the Waterfront in Portland to eat lunch and feed the seagulls.  It's been a great three day weekend with my boys!

They weren't as excited as I was to be out in the cold for an estate sale.

The snowbanks are becoming huge!
I can only imagine what mud season is going to be like.

One of Mike's Valentine's Day presents was a puzzle.  Puzzles are very relaxing to him while I think they more like a project that have to be completed before we do anything else.

Like Father, Like Son - two peas in a pod!

One of our favorite places to sit and relax.  Whenever a boat would go by, the ice would move up and down with the waves.  It was really fascinating to watch.

This kid and whoopie pies!
