About Me

My photo

Life is beautiful whether you're soaking in sunshine or caught in a thunderstorm. I take the beauty of life for granted too often. I have a supportive husband who I don't want to live life without, a beautiful son who is always reminding me of the simple things that really matter, and an independent daughter who is teaching me to throw schedules out the window and live in the moment. My day is made when free samples fill my mailbox. I love discovering a new product and sharing it with others. I'm addicted to coupons and every penny counts. I hope you will enjoy reading my posts and will share your success stories with me as well.

Spaghetti & Meatballs - Genovese Family Dinner

I can still remember my first Genovese Family dinner.  Mike and I were dating and his grandparents were in town from CT.  I was going to have my first Spaghetti & Meatball Dinner with the entire Genovese family.

Growing up, spaghetti was not one of my favorite meals.  It was pretty much a can of Hunt's spaghetti sauce over noodles with a little ground beef. Or if we were lucky, Ragu would be on sale and we would get the "expensive sauce".  Meatballs were always served with mashed potatoes, green beans, and corn.  Spaghetti & Meatballs were a whole new concept for me to understand.

I still remember walking into Tina's kitchen and seeing the pile of pots and pans it took to make this family meal.  There was this gigantic pot of homemade sauce, a mountain of gorgeous meatballs mixed with pepperoni and sausage, at least 10 pounds of pasta, and large bowls of Ricotta & Parmesan cheese.  It was almost overwhelming since I had never experienced anything like this before.  I didn't know a Spaghetti Dinner could be so incredibly delicious.

And everyone was right....no one made Spaghetti and Meatballs like Grandma Genovese.  She seriously needs to win some type of award!  And after that night, Spaghetti & Meatballs became my new favorite meal.

Dad & Mama G are getting ready to move back to Maine tomorrow.  Mike's sister, Tina and her family will be moving back to CT the following week.  We've all been in SC together for the last 10+ years.  So last night we had one last family dinner together and of course, I had to make Spaghetti & Meatballs.  It wasn't even close to Grandma's recipe.  I forgot the Ricotta cheese and I didn't put any sausage or pepperoni with my meatballs.  Either way, it was still a great night with family.  Loud talking, lots of laughter, some good Italian arguing, and kids everywhere.  I'm going to miss these family dinners...
