About Me

My photo

Life is beautiful whether you're soaking in sunshine or caught in a thunderstorm. I take the beauty of life for granted too often. I have a supportive husband who I don't want to live life without, a beautiful son who is always reminding me of the simple things that really matter, and an independent daughter who is teaching me to throw schedules out the window and live in the moment. My day is made when free samples fill my mailbox. I love discovering a new product and sharing it with others. I'm addicted to coupons and every penny counts. I hope you will enjoy reading my posts and will share your success stories with me as well.

Home Ownership, Bad Floors, and Lots of Hard Work

I am very thankful for the home God has blessed us with.  But sometimes home ownership can be very discouraging.  One thing gets fixed and another two items break.  We recently had a leak in our back door.  Flashing wasn't properly installed on the deck when the house was built 7 years ago.  So the last several years we have had water leakage coming through the floor under the deck.  It wasn't until a few months ago that we noticed our floors getting darker and darker, and eventually saw our French door was rotting at the bottom.  In the last 2 months we've had the deck repaired, a new French Door installed,  sub flooring replaced, and new floors installed.  It's been a long process and I'm so thankful everything is finished. Well, almost finished...three transit strips are on order and should be installed later this week.  I was nervous with going to a darker floor color but I'm in love with how it turned out!  The color are so rich and gorgeous.  We went with laminate over hardwood so Bradley can play with his Matchbox cars on the floor and I don't have to worry about scratch marks.  And Mike was very happy to save a few dollars by going with the laminate!

The floor was so rotten underneath the tile that Dad G literally fell through the floor.
I'm so thankful that he wasn't hurt or anyone else that has stepped in that area that last several months.

Mike and Dad G worked so hard replacing some beams and sub flooring.

Bradley testing out the new floor.
He thought it looked beautiful! :)

Mike worked so hard one night putting this extra layer down
to make the floors even before the new floors were installed.

This was my flooring in my kitchen for about 3 weeks.  The floor had to be reordered when the installers realized there was a manufacturer's defect on the first order.  I was beyond frustrated at this point and wasn't very pleasant to live with.

Finally!!
 New floors!!

The pictures don't do it justice so everyone will just have to
come over to see it in person.

I love how we changed the direction of the flooring.
It makes the room look so much larger.

A huge thanks to my husband, Mike and father-in-law, Tom for working so hard!  And an extra double thanks to Mike for putting up with my impatience and complaining while waiting for this project to be finished.
