About Me

My photo

Life is beautiful whether you're soaking in sunshine or caught in a thunderstorm. I take the beauty of life for granted too often. I have a supportive husband who I don't want to live life without, a beautiful son who is always reminding me of the simple things that really matter, and an independent daughter who is teaching me to throw schedules out the window and live in the moment. My day is made when free samples fill my mailbox. I love discovering a new product and sharing it with others. I'm addicted to coupons and every penny counts. I hope you will enjoy reading my posts and will share your success stories with me as well.

Our Weekend Recap

Can I just say that I'm glad the weekend is over?  Wow!  After a visit to the ER on Friday night with Bradley and a Urgent Care visit on Sunday for me, the results are Upper Respiratory Infection for Bradley and Bronchitis for me.  I was so disappointed to cancel our plans for seeing Hunger Games Catching Fire with friends on Saturday.  Instead we stayed home and watched lots of movies and slept a lot.  I'm hoping Mike and J stay well and Bradley and I recover before Thanksgiving.

J and Bradley played nicely all day on Saturday in which I was very thankful for!

I didn't even care about the mess they made in Bradley's bedroom.  All the toys have to be sterilized anyway today and it will give me a chance to re-organize.

All smiles despite being so sick.

Mike's cure for the cold....a Subway sandwich LOADED with veggies and oil and vinegar.  He was so sweet to play doctor this weekend and the sandwich actually tasted really yummy!

Mandisa - Somebody's Angel

Our Christmas party for the foster children of Greenville County is just 18 days away!  I'm so excited about this special night of spoiling these beautiful children.  Santa Claus and cookies, crafts and coloring pages, and lots of love will be given to each child that night.  I've been listening to Mandisa It's Christmas this past week as I've been getting things prepared for this big party.  I love this song as it puts perspective into the Christmas season.  There are so many hurting people that just need God's love shown to them.  After all God showed His love to us by having Jesus born on Christmas Day.  What is your focus this Christmas season?  My hope is that it will be to show love to someone who is hurting.  Take a chance and be someone's angel this year!

CVS Shopping Trip Week of November 17-23

I'm very thankful for CVS Extra Care Bucks today.  I didn't see any great deals at CVS this week so I was going to skip the trip this week.  But Bradley woke up with a cold this morning and I knew I would have to buy some items for him.  The shaving cream and toothpaste were the only items on sale and needed so I grabbed those while I was there.

I'm hoping between the honey cough syrup, vapor rub, Vitamin C, and extra rest time, he'll get over this cold before Thanksgiving.  I'm so glad I had $19 ECB's saved up because that came in handy with today's trip to CVS to buy items not on sale.  I spent $1.39 out of pocket, saved $21.25 and received $4 back in ECB's.

Hoping this sweet little guy feels better soon!

Holmes Hot Dogs

Mike and I went horseback riding a couple weekends ago and met the owners of Holmes Hot Dogs.  They were some of the sweetest people you will ever meet.  We made a trip to Spartanburg last week to give their hot dogs a try.  I'm not a hot dog type of girl but I really did fall in love with the first bite.  It was delicious!  I loved them so much that I actually went up for seconds.  Their chili and coleslaw is homemade and I'm going to have to find a way to steal the recipe for their coleslaw. Either that or order a couple gallons of it for my next BBQ at the house.  We will definitely become new regulars at Holmes Hot Dogs!

Broccoli Quiche

Broccoli quiche brings back sweet memories of a dear lady named Mrs. Crain.  She was the mother of my boss during my camp days in TN.  I'll remember her best for her cantankerous spirit and her broccoli quiche.  She knew how much I loved her quiche and would make it each year when she came to camp to visit.  I can still see us eating slices of quiche in a nacho tray in the camp canteen.  Such sweet, fun memories!

I had some beautiful eggs delivered from Limestone Farms yesterday.

Ingles has their broccoli crowns on sale this week.

So I knew Broccoli Quiche had to be put on the menu this week!

Ingredients
5 eggs
1 cup heavy cream
2 cups broccoli, steamed
1/2 onion, sauteed
1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese
salt & pepper
Pie Crust - I use the Pillsbury Deep Dish Frozen Pie Crust

Directions
Whisk eggs, cream, and salt and pepper.  Sautee onion and steam broccoli.  Combine egg mixture with onion and broccoli and pour into pie crust.  Sprinkle cheese on top.  Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.

My Birthday - 32 years old

Today I'm 32 years old.  Birthdays used to be so special and I loved the month of November because of it.  Now I almost dread it.  And it has nothing to do with the fact that I'm getting older.  I can remember how excited I would get the week of my birthday.  I would be rushing to the mailbox every day to see how many birthday cards would come in the mail.  I loved to make plans on what I wanted to do on my special day.  Mom would always cook my favorite supper which was always Dreamy Chicken and a Chocolate cake with Oreo frosting.  Most of the time we just had a family birthday dinner but on occasion we were allowed to have a friend over.  One of my siblings would have to do my chores for that day and I loved how they would fight over who had to do them.   Mom always had a way of making me feel on top of the world on my birthday.

My birthdays the last 5 years just haven't been the same.  And it's all because Mom is gone.   I saved her last birthday email she sent me and I read it once a year.  I hate feeling this way.  No one wants a party pooper and it's really tacky to be the birthday girl and the party pooper.  Maybe one of these years the pain won't be as strong and I'll be able to enjoy my special day again.  For all those posting on my Facebook wall, sending texts, phone calls, etc....Thank you!  I really appreciate the sweet birthday wishes.

Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday to you!
Happy Birthday, Dear Daughter,
Happy Birthday to YOU!

Hope you have a wonderful day celebrating YOUR day. (:  I know what I was doing 27 years ago today!

I'm up early so I could eat something.  My cat scan is at 9:30 and I can't eat or drink anything prior to four hours of testing. ):  I can handle the not eating part but not the no drinking part!

Love ya! Mom

Ingles Grocery Trip Week of November 3-9

I was SO happy with my grocery trip today.  I had my coupons ready and cash in hand.  This week I spent $100.33 and SAVED $76.31!  I was 33 cents over budget but I didn't even care because I saved so much.  And I even got a turkey, roast, and ham!  We are stocked up on cereal, eggs, fabric softener, stuffing, and canned vegetables for a little while.  My favorite deal were the blackberries and raspberries on sale for 99 cents and $1.49.  Bradley and I can pop those berries in our mouth like candy.

Mystery Shopper - Extra Income

I recently signed up to become a mystery shopper.  I've heard about these "mystery shoppers" but didn't know where to sign up to become one or if a company was legit.  My friend Mindy recently joined and emailed me the information on how to get started.  I joined a couple weeks ago and had my first assignment on Monday.  I have my second assignment tomorrow!  In just two days this week, I'll make $27 with an hour of my time.  Not too bad for making a trip to a store I normally shop at anyway.  To learn more about becoming a mystery shopper and to sign up, please click here.

This is a great way to make some extra income for the holiday's, earn extra spending cash, or put back in savings.

The Piano Guys

I can't even describe to you how much I love listening to The Piano Guys.  The passion and energy they show while playing their instruments is definitely contagious.  The song above is one of my favorites!  I gave their CD to all my co-workers last year for Christmas and it was a huge hit.  It's on sale at Walmart right now for $9.99

Happy Wednesday!

Sugar Toast

This is technically cinnamon sugar toast but we just called it sugar toast growing up.
There's just one extra ingredient in this that most people normally don't add to their cinnamon sugar toast.  And I think that's why I loved this recipe so much as a little kid
back then and as a big kid now!

Spread butter evenly over each slice of bread.

The secret ingredient - HEAVY CREAM
Spoon a heaping teaspoon of heavy cream on each slice of bread and spread.

Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on next.

Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes and then broil on low for about 5 minutes or until tops are golden.  Somehow the broil process just adds extra yumminess to the toast.

Other options:  You can also just use whole milk or half & half instead of the heavy cream.  I've also added pumpkin spice or nutmeg on top of the cinnamon for extra flavor.

Our Weekend Recap

So my favorite day all weekend was definitely Saturday!  Mimi and PopPop watched the boys so Mike and I could celebrate our 9th anniversary by going horseback riding and grabbing some lunch.  It was the perfect Fall afternoon and the tree colors are in their peak season right now.  We tried a new place which was called Black Horse Run in Fountain Inn, SC.  We loved it and had a great trail ride.  It was our first for going in the water on a horse and our first trail ride that they actually let the horses gallop on some parts rather than walking.  It was so much fun!   My horse, Pale Face, had quite a mind of her own.  She made her own trails, had no problems running my leg into trees and walking as slowly as possible.

After a quick casual lunch at my favorite fast food restaurant, Panera Bread, Mike dropped me off for a massage.  For all of my local Greenville readers, DeAnna at Simply Massage is the best of the best!

We ended the day with taking the boys to David Jackson ParkWe just found out about this park last week when my niece had a t-ball game there.  It's a gorgeous park with Paris Mountain views all around it.  They have a very kid friendly playground for all ages, nice restrooms, and walking trails.

The extra hour of sleep was so nice on Sunday morning.  Church on Sunday morning, some yard work in the afternoon, and Growth Group on Sunday night and our weekend was over.
