About Me

My photo

Life is beautiful whether you're soaking in sunshine or caught in a thunderstorm. I take the beauty of life for granted too often. I have a supportive husband who I don't want to live life without, a beautiful son who is always reminding me of the simple things that really matter, and an independent daughter who is teaching me to throw schedules out the window and live in the moment. My day is made when free samples fill my mailbox. I love discovering a new product and sharing it with others. I'm addicted to coupons and every penny counts. I hope you will enjoy reading my posts and will share your success stories with me as well.

Best Ever Sugar Cookies

I used to babysit 4 boys when I was a teenager and I remember their Mom would make these fabulous sugar cookies at Christmas time.  It was the only time of the year she did any baking but these cookies totally made up for the rest of the year.  I think I finally found the recipe that matches her cookies exactly.  My only warning is to please not to make yourself sick by consuming large amounts of cookie dough and/or cookies.  They are sinfully addicting!

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups butter, softened
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

Directions
Cream butter and sugar until smooth.  Beat in eggs and vanilla.  Add flour, baking powder, and salt and mix well.  Place cookie dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

The next day:  roll out dough on floured surface 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick.  Cut into shapes with any cookie cutter.  Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.  Bake at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes.  Cool completely.

Icing for Cookies
1 pound powdered sugar
1 stick butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup cream or whole milk
Add your choice of color of food coloring
