About Me

My photo

Life is beautiful whether you're soaking in sunshine or caught in a thunderstorm. I take the beauty of life for granted too often. I have a supportive husband who I don't want to live life without, a beautiful son who is always reminding me of the simple things that really matter, and an independent daughter who is teaching me to throw schedules out the window and live in the moment. My day is made when free samples fill my mailbox. I love discovering a new product and sharing it with others. I'm addicted to coupons and every penny counts. I hope you will enjoy reading my posts and will share your success stories with me as well.

Homemade Dairy-Free Coconut Ice Cream Milkshake

We recently made some homemade dairy-free coconut ice cream and it turned out fairly well.  It took about 1 1/2 hours for the ice cream maker to make it thick of enough but it was still more like a milkshake rather than ice cream.  So it ended up being a delicious coconut milkshake instead.  Here's the recipe we used:

4 cups of Coconut Milk
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 Tbsp vanilla

Stir the milk and sugar together until sugar is fully dissolved.  Add vanilla and pour mixture into electric ice cream maker.

Mike loves making up his own concoctions so he experimented by adding watermelon to it and it was very refreshing.  Next he tried adding orange juice and that was super yummy too!  This is a great recipe to use for people who can't have dairy, a very nice refreshing drink on a hot summer day!

CVS Shopping Trip - Spent $20.29 and received $16.99 back in ECB's.

I was very happy with my shopping trip to CVS this week.  I love it when the Aveeno products go on sale!  Here's what I purchased:

Three bottles of Aveeno body wash priced at $6 each
One bottle of Aveeno lotion at $7
The sale was buy $25 worth of Aveeno products and receive $10 back in ECB's.  I used a B2GO coupon and $3/2 to make my final price $1.50 each.

One Pantene shampoo and one Pantene conditioner - on sale 2/$6.97 with $2 back in ECB's.  I used a $3/2 manufacturer's coupon to make my final price 98 cents each.

Two Snickers candy bars on sale 2/$1 with $1 back in ECB's making final cost FREE.

One Trident cinnamon gum priced at $1.29 - I used $1 CVS coupon printed from kiosk to make my final price 29 cents.  This is my favorite brand and flavor of gum!

One box Preparation H wipes - on sale at $3.99 with $3.99 back in ECB's.  I used $2 online coupon to make my final cost FREE with $2 in overage!

My final out of pocket cost was $20.29 with a total savings of $30.05.  I received $16.99 back in ECB's so really all these items only cost me $3.30!  I love CVS and the ECB's program!!

Walgreens Shopping Trip - Spent $5.17 and saved $18.48

I'm starting to become very disappointed with Walgreens lately.  They are out of stock on so many sale items and the coupon policy can be frustrating since they only allow one coupon per item.  You have to buy filler items in order to make the transaction work if using Register Rewards and manufacturer's coupons.  I went to two different Walgreens to find the body wash, crackers, and coffee drink that were on sale and both stores were already out of stock.  I'm lucky that I have 3 Walgreens within about 5 miles of each other so I didn't have to drive too far but being 38 weeks pregnant and getting in and out of the car can be exhausting.  I have two rain checks sitting in my wallet that I haven't been able to use for the past 2 months because every time I check the shelf, they are still out of stock.  Does anyone else feel the same way I do with Walgreens?

Either way, here are the items I purchased this week:

Scott Naturals 6 pack paper towel - on sale for $3.99 and I used $1 manufacturer's coupon to make my final cost $2.99.  I also had a $2.50 Walgreens coupon for this paper towel but the cashier would not let me use it.  Long story and I was too exhausted to argue so I just left it alone.  But it would of made one sweet deal if I could of used it.  50 cents a roll is a good deal but I'm still tempted to return this item because it wasn't at the price I had budgeted for.

Four Cans of Arizona tea on sale BOGO.  I used these as my filler items to be able to use two Register Rewards.

Reynolds 75 sq. ft. aluminum foil on sale for $1.99.  I used $1 coupon to make my final cost 99 cents.

Got2B Hairspray and Mousse on sale BOGO at $5.99.  I used two $2 manufacturer's coupons to make my final cost 99 cents each.

I spent a total of $5.17 and saved $18.48.

Love at Last Sight by Kerry & Chris Shook Book Review

I recently finished the book Love at Last Sight by Kerry & Chris Shook.  I first thought this book would be about relationships between husband and wife but soon realized it's about all your relationships with your spouse, parents, children, and friends in your life.  The book is sectioned to be read in 30 days, read one chapter a day.  At the beginning of each chapter, there are two quotes that are written by famous people.  I really enjoyed reading these quotes, some I'd heard before and others were new.  At the end of each chapter there is a challenge for the week which really helps you focus on what you need to do to make your relationships more meaningful.  The book has four themes which are:

Week One - The Art of Being All There focuses on why physical presence is important in relationships.

Week Two - The Art of Acting Intentionally focuses on why intentionality is more important than chemistry.

Week Three - The Art of Risking Awkwardness focuses on when there's a problem in a relationship, love at first sight says it's time to bail.  Love at last sight says that's the time to dig in and do the hard work of risking awkwardness or uncomfortable conversations.

Week Four - The Art of Letting Go focuses on our control issues and why it's so important to let go of trying to be in control and having things done our way.

Life is too short and at the end of the day, all that really matters is relationships.  Our relationship with God and the people we love.  I highly recommend reading this book if you want more meaningful relationships with the people in your life.

God Bless the USA - Lee Greenwood

Memorial Day is so much more than BBQ's, a day off from work, hanging out with friends, camping, the beginning of summer, etc. We are so blessed to be living in America and can't forget the people who made it possible for us to have this freedom. Take an extra moment to say a special prayer for those families who lost a loved one fighting for this beautiful country! Say thank you to someone who has given their time to serve our country!

Walgreens Shopping Trip Week of May 22

It's been a crazy week and so far I've only made it to Walgreens and Ingles.  I'm hoping to make a trip to Bi-Lo and CVS later this morning.  My Internet has also crashed twice so I was without Internet for 3 days.  Hopefully I will be back on schedule next week with my regular blog postings.

Here is what I purchased at Walgreens earlier this week:

Infusium Shampoo - on sale for $5.99 with $2 back in Register Rewards.  I used a $2 manufacturer's coupon so my final cost was $1.99.

Two cans of Mandarin Oranges - on sale 2/$1 with in-ad coupon.

Three boxes of strawberry Jell-O - on sale for 59 cents each with in-ad coupon.

Yardley Oatmeal and Vanilla Bar Soap - on sale for 69 cents with in-ad coupon.  I used a 30 manufacturer's coupon which made my final cost 39 cents.

Tums Ultra Strength 72 count - On sale for $3.99 with in-ad coupon.  I used a $3 Walgreens coupon which printed from the kiosk a couple weeks ago so my final cost was 99 cents.

Reese's Pieces and Hershey's Cookies & Creme Candy Pouch - on sale 2/$5.  I used $3/2 manufacturer's coupon so my final cost was $1 a bag.

My final out of pocket cost was $11.78 with a savings of $14.99.  I also received $2 back in Register Rewards to be used on my next purchase.

Bar S Hot Dogs on sale BOGO at $1.78 -  I used $1 coupon to make my final cost 39 cents a package.

Vlasic pickles & peppers on sale BOGO at $1.04 - I used two 55 cents coupons to make my final cost 49 cents each.

Lawry's Marinades on sale 2/$4 - I used 50 cents coupon which double to make my final cost $1.

Ken's Salad Dressing's on sale BOGO at $1.88 - I used $1/2 coupon which made my final cost 44 cents each.

Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ Sauce on sale BOGO at $1.98 - I used $1/2 coupon which made my final cost 49 cents each.

4C Drink Mixes on sale BOGO at $4.98 - I used $2 coupon and $1 coupon to make my final cost 99 cents a box.

KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce on sale BOGO at $1.88 - I used 50 cents coupon which double to make my final cost FREE.  But while looking over the receipt, I realize that the sale price did not ring up so I will be taking this back and getting the price adjusted.  This is why you always need to pay attention to the register while the cashier is scanning your items.  I was distracted with Ty so it's my fault I didn't catch this error.

Reynolds Aluminum Foil 75 sq. feet on sale at $2.98 - I used $1 coupon to make my final cost $1.98.

Dove Men+Care Body and Face Bar Soap on sale BOGO at $3.61 - I only picked up one 2 pack and used $1 coupon to make my final cost 81 cents.

Some items that I needed and didn't use a coupon for were:

Bag of Bananas - on sale at $1.49

Laura Lynn Instant Potato's - $1.50

Oscar Meyer Bologna on sale BOGO at $3.38 - I only picked up 1 pack so my final cost was $1.69.

Surf Laundry Detergent - on sale BOGO at $6.39.  I bought one box and used $1 manufacturer's coupon and there was $1 peel off sticker on the box that the cashier used so my final cost was only $1.19.  Not every store will combine manufacturer's coupon with a peel off sticker but $2.19 is still a good price for laundry detergent.

Jimmy Dean Sausage - on sale 2/$5 and I used a 55 cents coupon which doubled to make my final cost $1.95 per package.

My sub-total before savings was $33.13.  My final out of pocket costs after Bonuscard savings and coupons was $11.06 for a total savings of $22.26.

Nesting has kicked in!

I'm less than 4 weeks away from my due date and nesting has really started kicking in.  Not sure why it has to start now since I run out of energy so quickly, but it has.  Last night my husband and I cleaned out the entire refrigerator.  We took EVERYTHING out and washed down EVERYTHING.  I'm fairly good about wiping things up if they spill but it's crazy how dirty the shelves can become.  Especially the sauce shelves.  And I'm ashamed to admit that I did have a couple expired bottles of sauces in there.  One of them had expired back in 2009!  It was a bottle of salad dressing we had tried and didn't like so instead of throwing it out, we just decided to let it sit in the refrigerator for almost two years.  :)  I didn't take a before picture because I would be too embarrassed for everyone to see how messy it was.  But here are the after photos:

And yes, I realize that my refrigerator is almost empty....grocery shopping is scheduled for tomorrow morning!

I'm hoping to tackle the freezer tomorrow night.

My Mother's Day Gift - Rubbermaid Reveal Mop

I'm a very practical person so when it comes to gifts, I'd rather have a mop than a box of chocolates.  I've had the Shark Steamer mop for a couple of years but it's a hassle to use creating the steam, having to find a convenient electrical outlet and you can easily work up a sweat with it.  I needed something easier and more convenient.  When my mother-in-law gave me an Amazon gift card for Mother's Day, I knew exactly what I wanted to buy.  A new mop!  After researching several different brands and models, I chose the Rubbermaid Reveal.  I'm very impressed with it so far and I think I'll be mopping our hardwood floors a lot more often.  The Reveal mop comes with a microfiber pad that is washable up to 100 times!  It comes with a refillable bottle that you can put your own cleaning solution in.  This is great for those of you who like to make your own homemade cleaning solution.  Or you can just use hot water if you prefer.  The mopping pad is 16.5 inches so you can cover a lot of floor in a little time.  The sprayer is fantastic with a powerful, full spray that evenly coats your floor.  The mop with a full spray bottle only weighs a little over 2 pounds so it's very light and easy to use.  To read more about the Rubbermaid Reveal or to purchase this mop, click here.

An awesome freebie in my mailbox on Saturday!

There are times it's totally worth the extra minute or two to fill out a form for a free sample.  Saturday was one of them!  I received a box from SC Johnson Right at Home with their Spring Fragrance collection from Glade.  It included 3 cans of air freshener, 1 Glade Sense and Spray automatic air freshener, and 1 Glade Sense and Spray Refill.  The Clear Springs scent is my favorite.  If you aren't already a member with Right at Home, it's very easy to join, free, and you will receive free samples and coupons.  You can join here.

Electrasol Finish or Jet-Dry for $1.24 this week at Walgreens

Walgreens has Electrasol Finish 20 pack on sale for $3.49 with $1.50 back in Register Rewards.  Use the 75 cents manufacturer's coupon from Sunday's paper and your final cost will be $1.24.

The same deal is available for the Jet-Dry 8.45 ounce.

Free Ice Freezer Pops after rebate at Kmart this week

Kmart has the 24 pack of Ice Freezer Pops on sale for $2 with in-ad coupon and using your Shop My Way Rewards card.  On the bag of ice pops there is a mail in rebate for $2 making these ice pops free after rebate.  There is a limit of 5 per customer but there is not any limit on the rebate program.  So if your kids go through a lot of these during the summer, you might want to make a couple of trips to pick up this great deal!

Lipton Tea and Starbucks Frappes on sale at Target this week!

Target has a sale on Lipton Green Tea and Starbucks Frappuccino Coffee Drinks this week.  Buy two of each and receive a $5 Target gift card.  The 12 packs of Lipton Green Tea are priced at $5.99 each and the Starbucks 4 pack drinks are $5.79 each.  I used two $2/2 manufacturer's coupons from the Sunday insert a couple weeks ago.  My total cost was $19.56 but I used Target gift cards from previous promotions so I didn't pay anything out of pocket.  With the coupons and the $10 gift card back, the final cost for these drinks come out to be $2.39 a pack.

CVS Deals Week of May 15-21

So I didn't find anything great on sale at CVS that I was super excited about but here's what I picked up this morning:

One Lady Speed Stick Deodorant - on sale for $2.99 with $2 back in ECB's.  I used a 50 cents manufacturer's coupon so my final cost with ECB's was 49 cents.
One 40 count box of Band-aids and one Neosporin ointment - Buy $7 worth of these products and receive $3 back in ECB's.  The Band-aids were $3.69 and the Neosporin was $6.49.  I used $1.50/2 manufacturer's coupon and a $3/$10 healthcare purchase CVS coupon that printed from the kiosk today.  My final cost with coupons and ECB's was $1.34 each.

Six packages of Big League Bubble Gum - Ty's birthday party is coming up in a little over a month and I'm starting to buy items for the party.  It will be a baseball themed party (more details later) and these packages of gum will go in the party favor bags.  I had some extra ECB's to spend and apparently this bubble gum is a seasonal item that isn't always in stock.  They were 99 cents each.

Total spent out of pocket was $5.31 with a savings of $15.00.  I also received $5 back in ECB's to be used on my next purchase.  The sad part of checkout was remembering that I forgot once again to bring in my green bag.  Does anyone else have as much trouble remembering this as I do?

Another quick stop in Walgreens

We were completely out of toilet paper yesterday so I ran into Walgreens since I had $4 Register Rewards to spend.  I'm so glad I stopped because they were back in stock with the Clean and Clear Body wash which was on sale BOGO.  I used a BOGO coupon so both bottles were free.  These are normally priced at $5.99 each!  I would NEVER pay that much for a bottle of body wash.  The Charmin Basic toilet paper was on sale for $5.99 and I used a 25 cents coupon.  And of course I had to pick up a chocolate milk (totally for Baby G) that was on sale for $1.  My final out of pocket cost was $3.45 and I saved $19.23!

Best Shopping Trip to Target in a long time!

I have never been able to print Target coupons from my computer until yesterday.  Not sure what the deal was but yesterday morning I finally got the site to work for me and the coupons started printing.  Yay because there was an awesome deal on hair color this week!

I was super happy with the items I picked up yesterday and my final out of pocket cost.

Two boxes of John Frieda hair color - $11.99 each but when you buy two boxes you receive $5 Target gift card.  I used a Free product coupon along with a $5 manufacturer's coupon and another $5 Target coupon.

One 24 count package of Zantac - $7.21 and I used a $5 manufacturer's coupon combined with a $2 Target coupon to make my final cost 21 cents!
One International Delight Coffee Creamer - $1.79 and I used a Free coupon that was offered on Facebook a couple weeks ago.

One Clorox Bleach on sale for $1.66.
My total out of pocket cost was $5.11 with savings of $36.44!  I also received a $5 Target gift card so really I purchased all these items for a whopping 11 cents!

By the way, I colored my hair last night and I'm in love with the John Frieda Foaming Hair Color.  It worked perfectly and all my gray hairs are gone!

My Day Yesterday....I think I've been jinxed!

Ever have one of those day where you feel like someone has put a jinx on you?  That was my day yesterday.  It was already full of busy activities with catering for Mike's coffee club and a doctor's appointment.  After dropping the food off at Mike's office and finishing my doctor's appointment, I pick up Ty from the babysitter and we head to Target.  After shopping in Target, I get in my car to find out that it won't start.  Seriously?  A 35 week pregnant woman is not a happy camper sitting in the hot car with a crying 10 month old in the backseat.  I was cramping too much to try and walk back in the store to wait for Mike to pick me up.  This problem also happened to me exactly one month ago.  A Wednesday, Mike's Coffee Club, and a Doctor's appointment but that time it was me stranded in the Office Depot parking lot.  Last month it was the car battery.  Thankfully it was under warranty so the mechanic replaced it for free.    So my sweet husband came and picked me up and brought me home and then he had to go back to work.  We made a trip to Target last night to see what the problem was this time.  We find out that the connections to the battery are corroded.  The parking lot was way too busy to try and fix the car last night so we had to leave the car there last night.

When I got home yesterday afternoon, I find that my Internet and TV had been turned off.  We had bad storms the night before but the Internet had been working earlier that morning so I knew that wasn't the problem.  I called our cable company and they inform me that they will send someone out the next morning.  You forget how addicted you are to the computer and TV when go a day without it.  I'm just glad the Boston Red Sox weren't on TV last night or I would of been even more upset to miss a game.

Mike headed out to Target at 7 am this morning to try and fix my car.  He only had an hour to work on it before he had to be back at work to meet a client.  It didn't get fixed in an hour so my car is still sitting in the parking lot at Target but hopefully we will be able to finish it tonight and get it back home.

The cable company repair man comes this morning to tell me that someone had come and shut off our connections yesterday and asked if we had paid our bill.  What?  The bill is automatically drafted each month so it's not a paid bill issue.  He restores the connection but informs me that he won't be able to give us the package we had before unless we pay more money.  I called customer service and they wouldn't budge unless we upgraded our package.  I wasn't about to pay more money for additional stations since we don't watch enough TV.  All I wanted was my Food Network, HGTV, and ESPN stations back.  But it didn't happen.

So now that I've eaten an entire package of Butterfinger 8 pack minis in the last 24 hours and who knows how many cups of sweet tea....I finally calm down.  Life is full of surprises but for me to get upset over losing TV and Internet connections and a minor problem with the car is ridiculous.  There are people that are suffering with bigger crisis such as finding out they have cancer, house being foreclosed on, losing their job, etc.  I had to spend some time this morning refocusing on what really matters in life and adjusting my attitude.  I'm now feeling more positive and realizing that yesterday was just a hiccup in the journey of life.  And yes, for those of you who are wondering, I'm suffering from a major sugar high headache.

CVS, Walgreens, and Ingles Shopping Trips Week of May 8-14

Oh My Gosh! What a morning!  Ever have one of those days you wake up and think I'm going to run all my errands first thing in the morning and get lots accomplished?  I had all my coupons and shopping list ready to go and everything was in order.  I should of known when Ty started acting up in the first store, CVS, that my plan was failing quickly.  He was a monster and I was searching my purse for anything that would keep him content for 2-3 minutes.  He's at the stage where dropping toys on the floor are a game for him.  Bending over at 35 weeks pregnant is not the easiest thing to do neither does it help a very sensitive bladder.  I should of gone immediately home after CVS but I was too stubborn and had to get all my errands finished.  Oh well, that's life and I'm finally home calming down and cooling off with the A/C turned on high.

Here are the deals I picked up this morning:

INGLES

They have an awesome sale on cereal this week!!  Buy 4 boxes of selected General Mills cereal and receive $4 off instantly.  I had to buy 5 boxes to make the deal work with my manufacturer's coupon but I still ended up paying $1.27 a box!  Three of these boxes are the family size box.  I bought two boxes of Golden Grahams, two family size boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios, and one family size box of Lucky Charms.

Golden Grahams - $2.68 each
Honey Nut Cheerios - $3 each
Lucky Charms $3 each

I used two $1 manufacturer's coupons and one $2 Ingles coupon, combined with the $4 instant coupon.  My total was $6.36 and I saved $12.02.  So far year to date, I've saved $515.89 at Ingles.

CVS

I finally remembered to bring in my reusable bag and have them scan my Green Bag Tag.  If you don't already know about this, every time you bring in your own reusable bag, you get 1 point.  After 4 points, $1 ECB will print.  I picked up one of the Green Bag Tags several weeks ago when they were free after ECB's but I kept forgetting to bring it in with me.  Here's the few items I bought today:

Two boxes of Rice Krispies - on sale for $1.97 and I used $1 manufacturer's coupon which made my final cost $1.47 each.

Revlon Makeup Sale - Buy $15 worth of Revlon Cosmetics and receive $7 back in ECB's.  The coupon kiosk is also print $3 off $10 makeup coupon.  I picked up one Revlon foundation and one Revlon eye shadow.  I used two $2 manufacturer's coupon and the $3 CVS coupon.  My final price with ECB's back was $2.84 each.  At first I had it all worked out so I would only be paying under $1 for the makeup but when I checked out the cashier informed me that one of the products was Maybelline and not Revlon.  Ahhh, pregnancy brain fart moment!  So I just ran back to the aisle and grabbed the cheapest thing that I could find that would still work with the deal.

Total spent out of pocket was $1.88, saved $28.61 and received $7 back in ECB's.

WALGREENS

I was very excited about the Pampers deal Walgreens has going on this week but unfortunately they were out of the Infant Care booklet which has the Pampers coupons so I couldn't get the deal.  If you happen to have one of those booklets be sure to check out Moneysavingmom.com to read about the great deal on Pampers this week!

Two boxes of Kleenex on sale for 89 cents with in-ad coupon.  I used 50 cents/2 coupon which made each box 64 cents.

One Colgate toothpaste and one Colgate toothbrush - on sale 2/$6 with $4 back in Register Rewards.  I used two $1 manufacturer's coupon so my final cost with Register Rewards back was FREE.
Total spent out of pocket was $5.75, saved $4.98, and received $4 back in Register Rewards to be used on my next purchase.

Two Free 8x10 Photo Collages at Walgreens

Here are two different codes for free 8x10 photo collage prints at Walgreens with in-store pickup.

FORMOM
FREECOLLAGE

I just finished making both of mine, one is to put back for Father's Day and the other collage print is of Ty's first Easter egg hunt.  These are great for putting back in their scrapbook.  Super easy to make and Walgreens does a nice job.  Can't beat free!

Bi-Lo Shopping Trip

I made a quick trip into Bi-Lo this afternoon.  I had several Bi-Lo coupons that I wanted to combine with manufacturer's coupon before they expired.  Here's what I purchased:

Archway Iced Lemonade Cookies - on sale for $3 and I combined $1 Bi-Lo Coupon with a 45 cents manufacturer's coupon which doubled to make my final cost $1.10.

2 Bags of Quaker Rice Cakes - on sale for $1 each and I used 55 cents/2 coupon which doubled to make my final cost 45 cents a bag.

Ball Park Hamburger Buns - on sale for $1.99 and I used 55 cents coupon which doubled to make my final cost 89 cents.

Ziploc Gallon Storage Bags - $2.89 and I used $1 Bi-Lo coupon combined with a 55 cents manufacturer's coupon which doubled to make my final cost 79 cents.

Bounty Paper Towel - $1.66 and I used $1.00 Bi-Lo coupon combined with a 25 cents manufacturer's coupon which doubled to make my final cost 16 cents.

Total cost before savings was $14.51 but after coupons and Bi-Lo Bonuscard savings, my total out of pocket cost was $3.95.  I saved $10.67.  The cashier said "you must be one of those extreme couponers."  I said "not quite but I love my coupons!"

One Gas X Prevention and One Gas X Softgels - Buy $20 worth of these products and receive $10 back in ECB's.  One was $6.29 and the other was $15.99.  I used $1 coupon on each box so my final cost after ECB's was $5.14 for each box.
