About Me

My photo

Life is beautiful whether you're soaking in sunshine or caught in a thunderstorm. I take the beauty of life for granted too often. I have a supportive husband who I don't want to live life without, a beautiful son who is always reminding me of the simple things that really matter, and an independent daughter who is teaching me to throw schedules out the window and live in the moment. My day is made when free samples fill my mailbox. I love discovering a new product and sharing it with others. I hope you will enjoy reading my posts and will share your stories with me as well.

My Stockpile Update

Most of you know, Baby G (no we still haven't decided on a name yet) is due June 11.  My goal for March and April has been to work on my stockpile so I don't have to worry about shopping in May and June and maybe even July.   I'm completely stocked up on Shampoo, Conditioner, Hair Spray, Mousse, Body Wash, Toothpaste, and Toothbrushes.  The amount I have will last us the next 3 months.  I'm still working on toilet paper, tissues, shaving cream, and razors but hopefully by the end of the month, we should have enough to last us the next 2 months.  Then I think we should be set for our personal hygiene products.

My grocery stockpile is a different story.  Not doing so hot on that one.  It's easier to find personal hygiene sales than grocery sales, at least it is for me.  I would love to have enough staples in the pantry so all Mike has to do is buy the perishables in the month of June.  Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can really focus on my pantry stockpiling and find some great deals.

When you stockpile, when do you decide enough is enough?  The show Extreme Couponing featured on TLC will have a new episode tonight at 9 pm.  The first time I watched it, I was intrigued but also disgusted with the amount of hoarding these people were doing.  Do they really need 100 bottles of shampoo or 200 tubes of toothpaste?  It gets to a point where you have to ask yourself are you really needing these items or are you just addicted to hoarding?  I get very excited when I find great sales or free items and it's easy to go overboard when an item is free or dirt cheap.  But unless you are planning on donating your extra items, I believe excessive stockpiling is wrong.  There's a difference between making sure your family is taken care of and having a large stockpile to look at like it's a trophy on the wall.

What are your thoughts?

  1. Way to go on your stockpile!!! =)

I have never watched the show "Extreme Couponing" but your right there has to be a point you say that's enough and we need to just utilize the stockpile we have right now.

Although one way I "share" our stockpile is to sell some of my stockpile at our Yard Sales which usually brings in additional customers and many repeat customers. By selling our stockpile they get a discount on great items and I get the extra cash to put back into our account. I even had a couple ladies ask me to email them the next time I do a Yard Sale so they won't miss it.

I like to donate to Operation Christmas Child and a variety of other great charities throughout the year. It is wonderful being able to help others because we took the time and energy to find items on sale or clearance.

  2. I agree with the "hoarding" If they are donating it to shelters or charities or something like that then it's ok but if you are buying it to just keep in your house then that makes me mad because there are people like me (and you, and everyone else) who go out to buy these things. Whether it be one or two items or a couple more to stock up and theres NOTHING left. I can't stand that. Also, i believe if you are going to buy THAT many, then make seperate trips, don't buy out the entire store in one trip so that nobody else can get the deals.
Aside from that I am excited to watch the show.
and I am with you on the crappy deals with groceries, I have always used coupons for things but I just cant find them, and find deals with food the way that I can with hygiene stuff and I really wish that I could!
I did find some good deals on paper towels, I just want to find some good deals on TP next!

  3. I think having 1-3 months stockpile is good just incase you lose your job...just like you should save money for that I think when things go on sale go ahead and stock up...mom always did but it was never hoarding.
