Instead of spending a chunk of money on that nice restaurant meal, try heading to your local butcher shop and buying two 8 ounce Filet mignon steaks. We have a New York Butcher Shop about 20 minutes away and when Mike and I are craving steak, I make a trip over there. For under $25 we can both have 8 ounce Filet mignon steaks. Add some mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, and rolls, and you have yourself a fancy restaurant meal for under $30.
The best way to cook Filet mignon is to have the Butcher season the steaks for you and then fry them in a hot iron skillet for about 2 minutes on each side. Place one tablespoon of butter on top of the filet and bake in the oven at 350 degrees. Depending on how you like it cooked, will depend on how long it needs to bake. We like our steak medium so we bake it for about 15 minutes. You will be very impressed with the way the steak melts in your mouth.
